Introduction: Topic related to coachees’ work
colleague (Mat) who interpersonal style came across as patronizing and fails
to matches deadlines. Mat
sits next to her - at the small publishing house – where Leah is a Production
Assistance and Mat is a “Cover art developer”.
The
aim of the session was to achieve the following gaols:
·
Create
a more production relationship that would encourage Mat to support deadlines
in a more focused way.
·
Become
less phased by the situation – chiefly less frustrated - and more in control
(Emotional Intelligence).
Questioning
related to address the issue/s:
·
The
average day’s event invariably alternate between urgent and non-urgent tasks.
·
Line
managers solution was to introduce a “Whiteboard” solution – which has proven
unworkable.
·
Formal
HR acknowledgement / solution of issue is required.
·
Mat
tentatively accepts, but allows collective senior management priorities to
take precedence.
·
Doing
nothing is – currently - not an option.
Generate
options for actions to be taken forward:
·
Speak
to the managers of both parties.
·
Recognise
being conflict adverse.
·
A
list of what to stop-doing has not been tried.
·
Relinquishing
the burden of self-blame.
·
Keep
tabs on the number of times coachee has progress-chased Mat’s tardiness.
·
Have
a HR forum to independently resolve the issue?
·
Man-up
and engage Mat’s, because his general disposition is agreeable to discussion.
Coach
and coachee agree what actions will happen.
• HR adjudication.
• Reduce Mat’s office power.
• Conflict management training course.
• Soundboard sessions with manager to
develop coping strategies.
• Unclenching of unhelpful mind-set.
• Commitment to action ranked 9 out of 10.
• Stop emotionally sabotaging actions.
• Accountability: Logging Mat's non-compliances and
possible coping strategies. Coach to provide information on psychological
testing approaches and Belbin Team-Roles. URL: https://pcs19082021.blogspot.com/p/belbin-team-role-summary-sheet.html

Hi David, I see it says 26th August in the sidebar for this first session, but it was today, right?
ReplyDeleteInformation om Team Roles
ReplyDeletehttps://pcs19082021.blogspot.com/p/belbin-team-role-summary-sheet.html
Thanks so much - I've now been able to play back the video. Can you send through the topic that you would like to look at with me today?
ReplyDeleteI found it to be a very productive session, which Leah (as coachee) evidently found very useful.
ReplyDeleteThe structured questions helped to elicit responses from the coachee, and a friendly and professional tone was struck to ensure a purposeful discussion. Working step-by-step through the GROW model, the coach moved the session into discussing possible ways forward. He encouraged the coachee to explore the situation fully and find solutions. At each stage , the re-caps were helpful summaries to move on from, and I felt like the coaching session took a very positive route to the coachee having a workable solution that she felt confident to implement.
